The

Venus Transit Series, 2010-2011.

My current work continues to juxtapose art historical references with popular culture. The paintings are concerned with societies' disregard for the environment, issues such as animal rights, women, war and riots, approached with a sense of humor. I use multiple sources such as old postcards, comics, news clippings and the Internet to achieve a symbolic tension of opposing realities. A recurring subtext in my work is the violence behind facades and the element of fate and chance in our lives. The series is loosely titled Venus Transit, which is an astronomical occurrence that will happen in the spring of 2012. This rare phenomenon transpires when Venus goes in front of the sun and creating a black dot. Supposedly when this happens, the female- male relationship will become more balanced and a strong feminine side will emerge that will help restore harmony in our world.
