Designed to function as a traveling carnival as well as a museum exhibit, the "Sideshow" has drawn record-breaking, multi-generational audiences to all of its venues and it has received consistently outstanding reviews. It premiered at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art in January 2001 with the largest attendance for any show in the history of the museum. Other past venues have included the Erie Art Museum, The Center for Visual and Performing Arts in Munster, Indiana, the University of New Mexico Art Museum, Albuquerque, the McKinney Avenue Contemporary in Dallas, the Art and Culture Center in Hollywood, Florida, Georgetown University in Washington, DC, and artspace in Shreveport, Louisiana. The Sideshow has been exhibited at nine Museums and galleries in the United States.
Joseph's work has been described as "well-executed, powerful, and edgy,...combining large-scale work with intricate detail" by The Colorado Council on the Arts, who awarded her a Fellowship in 2001. "The Sideshow" has also been picked as a "favorite" exhibition by art writers in New Mexico, Colorado and the Midwest for being "funky," "freaky," and "fascinating."
